Ways to Become Healthier – Mind, Body and Soul

We’d all love to be healthier, I’m sure.  When we embark on a health kick, we look at improving our diet and fitness but rarely do those changes we make become habit. We need to make them a habit to sustain a longer, healthier and happier life.   But it’s not just the changes to our bodies that are important – we need to take care of our mental health too!  Here are some ideas of how to create a healthy happy you.

Talking:  Feeling connected to other people is so important, and in today’s world it’s never been easier.  In order to keep your mental health in tip top condition, communication is a must!  Talk to your friends and family about how you’re feeling, good or bad, and in turn listen to them when they talk to you.

Find a hobby:  Taking time for yourself can be difficult.  You may have a very busy work life, so just finding time to do household chores or cook the family meals can be difficult.  But unless you make time for yourself, you may feel like you’re caught in a revolving door that you can’t get out of!

Clear out the Clutter:  By having a good clear out and getting rid of some clutter, you’ll be surprised at how good you feel.  Your house will feel like a new home; it’ll feel bigger and cleaner.  Shift some furniture around – a change is as good as a holiday!  As the saying goes, tidy house; tidy mind.

Nurture others:  Take time to look after those who have looked after you.  Pop in on an elderly neighbour, call your family, or send a card to a sick friend.  It’s natural to be concerned for others, it’s what makes us human.  This can extend to pets too – they’ll rely on you for food, exercise and love!

Diet:  You don’t need to starve yourself to have a healthy diet!  Just balance it out, eating lots of fruit and vegetables (particularly the green variety).  This will help get rid of the toxins, and will complement your mental wellbeing too!

Hydration:  Water is essential for overall good health.  It will help detox, aid digestion, and transport and remove waste products in the blood, as well as boosting your immune system.  Why not invest in a water cooler?  Filtered water is better still!

Exercise:  Choose an exercise regime that will work for you long term.  It might just be walking, or you might want something a little more aerobic where you attend a class a few times a week.  So long as your heart is pumping it’s all good.  30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week is recommended.

Mind set:  Be positive about what you want to achieve; whether it’s to lose weight, tone up, or just improve your overall health, stay motivated!

Reward Yourself:  Looking after your body is not supposed to be a punishment!  Treat yourself occasionally – a piece of cake will not hurt now and again!

Meditation:This can help us to understand our own mind, as we learn how to transform our thoughts from negative to positive, from erratic to peaceful and from sad to happy.  Meditation is a profound and spiritual practice that can be enjoyed throughout the day.

Crystals:  Different crystals can have different properties and energies, which can affect the physical, spiritual and mental aspects of each of us.  Holding the right crystal at the correct time can bring on change in our emotional attitudes and wellbeing.  The best advice is to hold the one you feel drawn to.

Smile: Smiling can trick the brain into thinking you’re happy, even if you’re not!  Give someone a hug and tell them you love them, sing out loud like no one is listening – freeing your voice is medicine to the soul!
